Although I don’t get to do much scouting in the off season, I have done a little over the years. If my vacation allows and I’m still in elk country I like to scout right after the season has closed. This is the best time to scout for next season. Check out those areas you have always wanted to look at, but did not have a chance to. Use your GPS, mark the new areas you find, and then download the waypoints to Google earth. Try to build a road map of elk movements in an area. When next season rolls around having a good read on previous years elk movements may pay huge dividends!
